deadline despite a move by Sunni Arabs to suspend work after the killings
of two colleagues. Some Shiites are pushing a proposal that could erode
women's rights.
Vast gulfs remain among the positions of Shiite, Kurdish and Sunni
members on key issues, including Iraq's identity as an Arab nation, the
role of Islam and federalism, some committee members said privately.

根據(jù)臨時(shí)憲法，正式憲法的起草工作應(yīng)在8月15日前完成，并在10月15日前就正式憲法舉行全民公決。但制憲進(jìn)程因各派的利益紛爭受到延誤，直至6月各方才達(dá)成擴(kuò)大制憲委員會(huì)以接納更多遜尼派穆斯林代表的協(xié)議，將委員會(huì)代表從55名增加到70名。
