有評論認為，中國大陸至少有兩本情趣典雅、適合高品位文化人閱讀的人文雜志：《萬象》和《書城》。日前，因資金短缺遭遇休刊變故的精英人文雜志《書城》和《萬象》絕處逢生，再次出現(xiàn)在各大書店的柜臺前。

由報道可知，適合高品位文化人閱讀的精英雜志可用“intellectual magazine”或“highbrow
magazine”來表示，這里著重談一下單詞highbrow。與intellectual相比，highbrow的語義范圍更具體，更側(cè)重形容有“高深”學(xué)問或文化素養(yǎng)的人，如They
only attend highbrow events such as the ballet or the opera.（他們只欣賞高雅藝術(shù)，如芭蕾和歌劇。）
在實際運用中，highbrow有時也用來指“自炫淵博的知識分子”，這時，他的貶抑色彩不言而喻。與highbrow相對的一個詞是lowbrow（庸俗、粗俗、教養(yǎng)淺薄的人）。
