【單詞講解】

“給...記功”可以用award someone a merit citation或者honor someone with a merit citation，上面例句中的主語都是獲得這些榮譽的人，所以使用了被動語態(tài)。此外，我們原來說過“授旗”用confer a flag to表示，其實，這里的“授予榮譽”也可以用confer a merit citation to someone表示。

Merit citation這個表達可以分開來看，merit指一個人或者集體的功績，而citation則是對于這一功績的官方認可（an official document or speech which praises a person for something brave or special that they have done）。
