The British Museum recently opened an online store on China's e-commerce platform Tmall, competing with the Palace Museum on the platform, which has successfully been selling souvenirs. The British Museum store sells tapes, handbags, mobile phone cases and other items with various themes such as the Rosetta stone, Egyptian mummy, the famous Japanese woodblock print "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" and the Isle of Lewis chess pieces. The store first launched 20 items, 15 of which have temporarily sold out. The store attracted over 30,000 followers on the first day, according to 36Kr, a Chinese technology news provider, with the number having grown sharply to 131,000 as of July 23.

Applying sunscreen can be a messy and time-consuming pursuit. But thanks to a cunning device, getting ready for the beach has been made much simpler. SnappyScreen, which was the brainchild of New York-based Kristen McClellan, is a booth with nozzles that spray holidaymakers in just ten seconds from head to toe. A YouTube video shows how users use a touch screen to select their height range and which SPF they would like to apply, with 15, 30 and 40 factors on offer. The booth, a platform the user stands on revolves so they get a 360-degree exposure to the cream. The booths come with disposable glasses to protect the eyes.

For the first time, scientists have detected a lake of salty water under the Martian ice, a study released Wednesday said. The lake is about a mile under the surface and stretches 12 miles across. The discovery raises the possibility of finding life on the Red Planet. The study does not determine how deep the reservoir actually is. This means that scientists can't specify whether it's an underground pool, an aquifer-like body, or just a layer of sludge. To find the water, Italian researchers analyzed radar signals collected over three years by the European Space Agency's Mars Express spacecraft. They spent at least two years examining the data to make sure they'd detected water, not ice or another substance.

The White House has suspended the practice of publishing public summaries of President Donald Trump's phone calls with world leaders, two sources with knowledge of the situation tell CNN, bringing an end to a common exercise from Republican and Democratic administrations. Trump has had at least two calls with other leaders in the last two weeks, including Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The White House confirmed that the calls took place after they were reported by foreign media, but declined to elaborate on what was said. It's unclear if the suspension is temporary or permanent. A White House spokesman declined to comment.
