The mercury was set to soar to 33 C recently, but those hoping for the relief of some cool air have been left frustrated, with some complaining of entire towns across the country being sold out of fans. One commenter reported that fans were completely sold out in Chelmsford; James Lund from Leeds said he couldn't find a fan for his grandmother, and a Lincoln resident also reported that shelves were bare. John Lewis said sales of electrical cooling products were up 315% week-on-week as weather forecasts showed no relief from the high temperatures for at least a fortnight.

This "little yellow horse" is an autonomous delivery robot, ferrying daily essentials like drinks, fruit and snacks from a local store to residents in the Chinese capital. Equipped with a GPS system, cameras and radar, the robots are seen by their creator as the future of logistics in China, where he says one billion packages will eventually be delivered every day. To get a delivery via the "little yellow horse", the customer selects the desired products, taps in the address and pays via their phone. The supermarket staff place the items in the robot, and the robot bustles off. "The weak point is that it cannot deliver directly to the door like a human," said a customer, who does not live on the ground floor. "But it's still quite practical. The robot delivers relatively quickly," she said.

In an attempt to raise awareness about the ability to turn wastewater into safe drinking water, New Carnegie Brewery in Sweden has launched a new beer brand made with recycled sewage water. The new beer crafted by it in collaboration with the Swedish Environmental Research Institute and Carlsberg is supposed to convince people that "second-hand water" can be as clean as normal tap water. The new beer launched in May, and it's already being called "crap beer" on social media, but its creators remain hopeful that it will help change the general opinion about recycled wastewater.

Frequent use of mobile phones can lead to deterioration of memory performance of specific brain regions due to exposure to radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (RF-EMF) during mobile phone use, researchers said. In a new study carried out by scientists at the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, researchers found that the so-called figural memory performance, or the ability to remember abstract forms, can deteriorate if the brain is often exposed to RF-EMF. Evidence is clear that radiation has had a significant impact on the right half of the brain, where the figural memory is located, among adolescents who hold the phone to their right ear when making a call. Sending text messages or surfing the internet has had no noticeable impact, according to the study.
