日擬采用夏令時(shí)辦奧運(yùn)
Japan is considering adopting daylight saving time (DST) next year so that athletes in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games can compete in cooler hours. The proposal to bring clocks forward by two hours has received major opposition on social media with many worried it would result in longer working hours. Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said such a move would have a "major" impact on people's lives. Olympic officials had earlier requested Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to adopt DST so that events like the marathon could be scheduled in the cooler morning hours. The government says it is yet to decide on the move but does want to limit the effect of summer heat on the athletes.

A young woman who weighs just 44 kg has scoffed 255 shish kebabs in 23 minutes to win an eating competition. Ceren Yilmaz was cheered on the whole way as she finished off 4 kg of shish kebabs at a restaurant in Antaly, Turkey. The 21-year-old student also devoured a side salad, some bread, three glasses of Turkish yoghurt drinks and two glasses of water. She stunned everyone by smashing the restaurant's previous record. Her predecessor managed to eat only 193 sticks of meat. She won a smartphone worth 5,000 Turkish Lira, a golden nugget and free meals in the restaurant for the next four months. She said that she smashed not only the diner's record, but her own personal best as well.

College students are reported to be the main force of the ghostwriters. Plenty of time in the summer and the desire to earn pocket money motivate them to "help".

Eyes really do tell a story. Using machine learning, earlier this year scientists discovered a connection between people's personalities and their eye movements. They then deployed artificial intelligence to track and analyze the eye movements of 42 students. The new technology can detect four of the "Big Five" basic personality traits: agreeableness, conscientiousness, extroversion, and neuroticism. It could not judge openness to experience. The good news, according to one researcher, is that this finding could improve how humans and machines interact. If the machine can interpret what a person is like, the thought is, it can act accordingly. This research provides opportunities to develop robots and computers so that they can become more natural, and better at interpreting human social signals.
