British street artist Banksy has stunned the art world with arguably his most audacious prank yet, self-destructing one of his best-known works moments after it fetched more than 1 million pounds at auction in London. "Girl with Balloon" had just sold at Sotheby's Friday for 1.04 million pounds when it unexpectedly passed through a shredder hidden in the frame. Banksy posted a video on Saturday on his Instagram page accompanied by a quote attributed to Pablo Picasso - "the urge to destroy is also a creative urge" - showing the stunt unfolding and how the artist pulled it off. "A few years ago I secretly built a shredder into a painting, in case it was ever put up for auction," read captions displayed over footage of a man crafting the device into a faux-gilt frame. The video later shows scenes from Sotheby's, where onlookers are left aghast as an alarm sounds and most of the image drops down through the frame and is left shredded. "It appears we just got Banksy-ed," said Alex Branczik, Sotheby's head of contemporary art for Europe, in a press release.

Actress Fan Bingbing has been ordered to pay more than 800 million yuan in tax and fines, the country's tax authorities said. Although Fan was paid 30 million yuan for her role in the film "Unbreakable Spirit", she only declared 10 million yuan, while the other 20 million yuan was left out of her contract, thus evading 7.3 million yuan in taxes, according to an investigation conducted by the State Administration of Taxation and the Jiangsu Provincial Tax Service, Xinhua reported. Fan and her companies also owe 248 million yuan in taxes, the report said. Authorities have ordered Fan to pay the said taxes, an overdue fee of 33 million yuan and a fine of 596 million yuan based on relevant laws and regulations, Xinhua reported.

Visitors to New Zealand could face an unwelcome choice: relinquish your cell phone password, or pay a $3,000 fine. Travelers who refuse to provide the pass codes to their digital devices or unlock them with biometric data such as fingerprints will face fines of up to NZ$5,000 (about $3,240) under New Zealand's new Customs and Excise Act of 2018, which came into effect on Oct 1. The law applies to both foreign visitors and New Zealand citizens.

Nearly 730 million trips were made by Chinese travelers within China over the seven-day National Day holiday, a year-on-year increase of 9.43%, thanks to cheaper tickets and higher-quality travel services, according to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Travel and tourism-related revenue tallied between Monday and Sunday hit nearly 600 billion yuan, up 9.04% compared with 2017. Tourist attractions, according to the ministry, received 122 million visits on just the first day of the seven-day break, up 7.54% year-on-year, with revenue increasing 7.19% to 103 billion yuan. The ministry said that 981 State-level attractions lowered ticket prices, while 74 were free to the public prior to the travel boom during the break.
