25th International Radio Playwriting Competition - now open

Writers from around the world are invited to submit their scripts as the 25th International Radio Playwriting Competition opens.

The global competition, hosted by BBC World Service and the British Council, in partnership with Commonwealth Writers and co-producers The Open University, offers the unique opportunity for playwrights to use the medium of radio drama to reach an international audience.

The competition has two first prizes – one for writers with English as a First Language and another for writers with English as a Second Language. Both winners will attend an award ceremony in London and see their plays recorded for broadcast on BBC World Service.

A third award – the Georgi Markov prize – celebrates the most promising script from the competition’s shortlist in honour of BBC World Service journalist and writer Georgi Markov (1929-1978). The winner of this prize will also travel to London for the award ceremony and spend two weeks with BBC Radio Drama and BBC World Service.

The previous competition attracted entries from a record 86 countries. To mark the 25th competition, The Ravens by Alana Valentine – the winner of last year’s English as a First Language prize – will broadcast again on Saturday 3 October on BBC World Service.

The International Playwriting Competition welcomes scripts from anyone outside the UK, whether established or new writers. The dramas need to be 53 minutes long and can be on any subject. The closing date for entries is midnight (GMT) on 31 January 2016.

BBC國際臺（BBC World Service）和英國文化協(xié)會(British Council)聯(lián)合發(fā)起的“第25屆國際廣播劇寫作比賽”（International Radio Playwriting Competition），現(xiàn)正在全球征集優(yōu)秀劇作。比賽的合作方還包括英聯(lián)邦作家基金會（Commonwealth Writers）和開放大學(xué)(The Open University)。

比賽歡迎世界各地的寫作愛好者參加，參賽者需要創(chuàng)作一個近一小時的英語廣播劇，劇中可多達(dá)六個角色，內(nèi)容不限，作者可以任意發(fā)揮想象力。參賽作品必須是英語原創(chuàng)，以前沒有發(fā)表過的。另外，這個比賽的獨(dú)特之處是，只有住在英國以外地區(qū)的人可以參加。

比賽一共有兩個頭等獎：一個頒給英語是母語的作者，一個頒給英語是第二語言的作者。獲獎?wù)邔谎埖絺惗貐⒓宇C獎禮，親自觀看他們的劇作如何從文字錄制成專業(yè)廣播劇。今年的比賽還增設(shè)了“喬治馬可夫獎”，頒給入選作品中最有潛力的作品。“喬治馬可夫獎”是為了紀(jì)念BBC國際臺記者和作家喬治馬可夫（1929-1978)而設(shè)立的。

比賽投稿截止日期為2016年1月31日。

去年的比賽我們共收到來自86個國家的參賽作品。過去兩屆的獲獎人分別來自津巴布韋、澳大利亞、墨西哥、烏干達(dá)和牙買加。我們期待中國的寫作愛好者也可以在這個享譽(yù)世界的比賽中，取得優(yōu)異的成績。
