Reader question: “Peter's sister is a lovely girl. She has a real peaches and cream complexion, soft and white as milk and a touch of pink like a fresh ripe peach.” Could you explain “peaches and cream”?
My comments: Fair-skinned people with rosy cheeks and unblemished skin are often said to have a “peaches and cream” complexion. The expression is mainly used when describing a female’s skin tone, however. The skin of a woman sporting a “peaches and cream” complexion is creamy with the pinkish hue of a peach, hence the term. Famous women with “peaches and cream” complexions are actresses Cate Blanchett and Nicole Kidman—both from Australia, incidentally. Nicole Kidman says she keeps her famous smooth complexion by staying out of the sun and using lots of sunscreen, which would have been necessary growing up in Australia’s sunny climate.
