影片簡介：
為了搜尋一塊墜落在南極島上的神秘隕石，一支由三個科學家組成的探險隊開始了他們的南極探險之旅。探險小組包括杰里·夏洛德（保羅·沃克飾），他最好的朋友庫珀（賈森·比格斯飾）以及一個性格古怪的美國地質(zhì)學家（布魯斯·格林伍德飾）。去南極考察探險，當然離不了在雪地上行走的特殊工具——雪橇，以及人們的忠實伙伴，雪橇犬。并且，這八條“精明能干”的雪橇犬都像他們的人類同伴一樣，都各自擁有自己的頭銜和稱號：領(lǐng)頭的“瑪雅”、忠實的“矮子”、老實“老杰克”、力氣大的“杜魯門”以及奔跑速度極快的“影子”等等。
初登南極這塊雪白冰雪覆蓋的土地，探險隊員們都被眼前美麗的景色所吸引，然而他們卻絲毫沒有預想到，隨著對極地的慢慢深入，更加惡劣的天氣以及極為兇險的自然環(huán)境將帶給他們越來越多的麻煩，甚至是對生存的極大挑戰(zhàn)。在乘著狗拉雪橇前進幾日之后的他們遭遇了一場空前的暴風雪，溫度自然也是急劇下降。隊員們自然是對眼前的狀況有些準備不足。其間一名隊員不慎踩破了薄冰，掉進了刺骨的冰水當中，還好有勇敢的雪橇犬相助，及時地將繩索送到落水隊員手中，令隊友將其拉出險境。然而，眼前這場突如其來的猛烈的暴風雪卻真的無法躲避了。阻斷了他們的前進之路不說，幾個人的生命也收到嚴重的威脅。無奈之下，眼看風雪勢越來越兇猛的隊員們只能被迫放棄一路上幫助他們的伙伴——雪橇狗，讓其各自逃命去吧。
被拋棄的雪橇狗們拼命脫繩索以從雪崩中逃生，為了生存下去，它們掙扎著互相依靠，共同抵御嚴寒積雪的同時，還要為了填飽肚子與身形龐大的海豹搏斗。此時的八條雪橇犬就像生死一線的好兄弟一般，相互支持著。探險隊的一行三人終于安全返回了基地，但冰雪中雪橇狗們拼命前行的景象卻一直纏繞著他們。終于抵不過良心的譴責，三個人同時決定，無論冒著怎樣的危險，都要將他們忠誠的伙伴們拯救出冰雪嚴寒。
