Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has stopped using Facebook after being deluged by friend requests.
The billionaire philanthropist and Microsoft chairman said managing his profile had become "way too much trouble".
"I had 10,000 people wanting to be my friends," he told the audience at a conference in India. Mr Gates said it took him a long time to go through his list of friend requests, trying to remember which people he did and didn't know.
"It was just way too much trouble, so I gave it up," he said.
Mr Gates, who was in New Delhi to receive an award for his work with his charitable organisation, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, also admitted he was not a "24-hour-a-day tech person".
"I read a lot and some of that reading is not on a computer," he revealed. "I'm not that big at text messaging."
He also cautioned that despite the many benefits of the digital revolution, some technology could waste people's time if they weren't careful.
Although Mr Gates has decided to delete his personal Facebook profile on the social-networking site, a Facebook fan group dedicated to Mr Gates has almost 17,000 followers, while a support page for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has around twice as many "supporters", with 34,000 fans.

身為億萬(wàn)富翁慈善家，以及微軟公司董事會(huì)主席的蓋茨表示，管理他的個(gè)人賬戶已經(jīng)變得“太麻煩了”。
他在印度參加一次會(huì)議時(shí)告訴聽(tīng)眾：“有一萬(wàn)人想加我為好友?！鄙w茨稱，他要花費(fèi)大量時(shí)間閱讀好友申請(qǐng)，并努力回想哪個(gè)人認(rèn)識(shí)，哪個(gè)他不認(rèn)識(shí)。
他說(shuō)：“這太麻煩了，所以我放棄了?！?/font>
蓋茨還坦承自己不是一個(gè)“24小時(shí)運(yùn)轉(zhuǎn)的機(jī)器人?！碑?dāng)時(shí)他正在新德里領(lǐng)獎(jiǎng)，用于表彰他和所建的慈善組織比爾及梅林達(dá)?蓋茨基金會(huì)所做的貢獻(xiàn)。
他坦承道：“我讀很多書(shū)，但有些不是在電腦上讀的。我對(duì)信息交流并沒(méi)有那么在行?！?/font>
他還提醒大家，盡管數(shù)字革命帶來(lái)了諸多好處，但如果人們不用心，一些技術(shù)反而會(huì)浪費(fèi)大家的時(shí)間。
盡管蓋茨已經(jīng)決定關(guān)閉自己在社交網(wǎng)站Facebook上的個(gè)人賬戶，但他在該網(wǎng)站上的“粉絲團(tuán)”已經(jīng)有了近17000人，而另一個(gè)支持比爾及梅林達(dá)?蓋茨基金會(huì)的網(wǎng)頁(yè)的“擁護(hù)者”則更達(dá)34000人，是粉絲團(tuán)的近兩倍。
